Miss Pre-Teen Prairie Rose International 2021 - Medora Rambousek

Meet Medora Rambousek.
She your new Miss Preteen Prairie Rose International 2021. Medora is a 5th grader at Trinity Elementary School in Dickinson. She is a member of Western Edge Gymnastics’ level 4 competition team. She’s been in gymnastics for 7 years already! She also studies the Cecchetti method of classical ballet and is learning to play piano, bells (xylophone), and snare drum. In her spare time she likes to watch her favorite tv show – Friends and play games with her family. In the summer she likes to ride bike and electric scooter. It helps her get her extra energy out.
Medora’s platform is called Free to be Me and it is all about living life with ADHD. Medora was diagnosed with ADHD in November 2020 and had no clue what it was. She knew right away that it was her mission to learn about it and share it with the world because not every kid with ADHD is as lucky as she is. Her mom is a teacher, so she saw it fairly early in Medora’s life. But she also knows that there is a stigma. People get labeled and then they feel bad about themselves. That’s why Medora’s mom waited to have her tested until something needed to change. Until that time, Medora’s family and teachers were just extra patient with her. In middle school, it was time to learn how to meet a deadline, so managing Medora’s ADHD needed a change. For Medora, that meant medicine and behavior therapy, which needed an official diagnosis.
Medora began to research. She now knows that ADHD is just a different way of experiencing the world. ADHD is ok, and no one is alone. Many people have ADHD. Successful people. Famous people.
People with ADHD can hyper-focus, which is kind of like a super power! Once Medora finds something she wants to do, it is difficult for her to stop. This is how she learned so much about ADHD in such a short time. She’s become like a mini brain scientist. She has learned that many people with ADHD are super creative, funny, compassionate, and inclusive (just like her!).
Medora’s goal is to teach people what ADHD is and how they can cope with it. She does not want others to feel like they need to hide it because those around them likely already know. Treatment can help ADHD brains find the middle ground.
